Guys,
I have recently logged onto a number of fencing club websites in the US and UK, and it all happens for you without all this subscription, content creation and activating stuff.
Why don't we just make people welcome?

(actually I registered about 2 years ago, but seem to have been blotted off the system..its all too hard!!!)
Problem is spammers
If you could see how many hundreds of spammer accounts we have had created on the site, you'd see why :)
I get at least one a day trying to register an account whose 'fencer profile' describes viagra...
