An insurance issue (and just plain rudeness)
I would like to draw Cavs' fencers attention to a potentially dangerous situation from an insurance point of view.
On Wednesday 24th August, a visitor, who told me he did not belong to any club (and who had apparently attended Cavs for 2 weeks sometime last year), was donning our gear and trying to tempt a non-fencer (who had just been given a ten-minute complimentary first-try lesson by a Cavs coach) into going on to the electric piste to fence with his friends who were visitors from another club.
The non-fencer was about to take up the offer when I put a stop to it from a safety point of view.
The 'tempter' was preparing to fence without a plastron and was going to use our electric gear without asking - until I insisted that he put on the correct equipment and pay for its hire.
I would just ask that fencers be aware of 'strangers' wanting to join in, especially if you are faced with an opponent who does not seem to be taking the correct precautions for regular safety and who may not be an fencer from an authorised club.
Thanks, Gillian.
